Actually, it seems to me that there would have been an easier solution to your problem: Take the volume ID of your partitions, which is also unique. (Use mountvol.exe to determine your volume IDs, this is even covered by the Truecrypt FAQ) But this approach wouldn't work for me, because I encrypted the entire disks ("Partition0" instead of "Partition1") and only partitions have volume IDs.
