DVD Flick

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Recently I needed to create a DVD out of some YouTube clips I downloaded. I googled around a little bit and finally found a nice and easy software solution for my use case. And certainly it’s open source.

I would like to use my brand new blog for advertising the mentioned open source software named DVD Flick.

Here are the main features of my new friend:

  • Burns nearly any video file to DVD
  • Supports over 45 file formats
  • Supports over 60 video codecs
  • Supports over 40 audio codecs
  • Add a menu easily (select one out of some prepared styles)
  • Add your own subtitles
  • Easy to use interface
  • Burn your project to disc after encoding

I would like to say that you don’t have to be a master in informatics to use this nice piece of software. Just install and use it.

Do following steps to create a DVD out of  your video clips:

  1. Create a new project
  2. Open project settings and give a little bit of information (not so much to do here and everything to do is quite clear)
  3. Add titles
  4. Edit title (give a name, give video file(s) – if you would like to link some files you can do it here, create chapters manually or automatically etc.)
  5. Create DVD
  6. …you’re done. Yes, that’s it ;)

Granted there are many programs like this out there but this one was so easy to use that it was just fun to use it.  Video editing and everything related to it sometimes can be very complex but the task to bring your video clips on a DVD has never been so easy. Give it a try, it’s worth.
